At Sea from Seward — Alaska Cruise/Expedition 2019

I had a very slow morning after a night of bad sleep – I definitely caught something that started as muscle aches and ended as a cough and cold. My wife explored the ship in the morning and went to a presentation about the Iditarod that she was very impressed with. I joined her for an introduction to Glacier Bay with the ship’s nature host. This nature host is an interesting speaker who is part Tlingit and grew up on a fishing boat in the area.

The ladies went to another “Mixology” session and learned to make some summery drinks. Unfortunately we do not keep several of these ingredients on hand, so these recipes probably won’t see much use.

Gin’s Cup

  • 4-5 slice of cucumber
  • 1.5 oz Tanqueray Gin
  • 1 oz sour mix
  • 0.5 oz St. Germain Elderflower
  • 0.25 Pimm’s No. 1
  • Put cucumber slices in a pint glass then muddle gently. Pack with ice to the top, then pour all ingredients. Shake and staring into martini glass.
  • garnish with thin slice of cucumber

Tropical Cablecar

  • 1/8 slice of grapefruit
  • 1 oz Captain Morgan Rum
  • 1 oz Malibu Rum
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz sour mix
  • dash of Angustora bitters
  • Muddle grapefruit then shake with ice, strain into martini glass
  • garnish with grapefruit zest

Sunsicle

  • 2 orange slices
  • 1.5 oz Vanilla rum
  • 1 oz sour mix
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • 1 oz soda water
  • Muddle the orange slices, then pack with ice and pour in remaining ingredients. Shake and pour into a pint glass.
  • garnish with orange slice

We went to the “Off the Charts” musical review on the main stage, then to bed early.
