We had another nice breakfast on the patio with our hosts.
Then we went down into the town center to do some shopping. My wife had found some cute Tassen bowls at the hardware store a couple days ago, and we bought a few of them.
We also bought some Hanuta cookies/waffles and a loaf of rye bread to bring home. Then we walked back up the hill and finished packing our suitcases.
Then we arranged the suitcases and ourselves into the car and drove to Erding, a suburb of Munich, where we checked in to a hotel. We had a flight early the next morning, so we dropped the car off at the Munich airport to have one less thing to deal with in the morning.
(Note: Erding is the home of Erdinger Weißbräu, the world’s largest wheat beer brewery. This makes a sort of conceptual loop back to the first day of our trip)
After dropping off the car we rode an S-Bahn train to downtown Munich. We had a nice dinner at the Weisses Bräuhaus. We didn’t realize when we first ordered beers that they offer several varieties of weisse beers, so we ended up with “original”, but I had a second smaller glass of a double-bock type that was nice – a bit of stout flavor but still a hefeweizen. The food was good and the waitress, who originally presented a somewhat grumpy demeanor, warmed to our poor German and showed some good humor.
After dinner we walked around the area near the Rathaus listening to a few street musicians which were almost all impressively good.
We listened to this group which featured a really enthusiastic xylophonist for a while. (In case you don’t recognize riffing on one of the most famous jazz pieces ever: Dave Brubeck – Take Five)
We couldn’t stay too late with the early flight coming in the morning, so had to head back to Erding on the train not too much later.
