We got up late and missed the pre-breakfast walk to the bakery. Breakfast was huge, with lots of choices of meats, cheeses, breads and pretzels, and fruit, and the eating went on for a long time.
Peter gave us an historic walking tour of Biberach.
The original city administration building has a bit of sagging going on with the first floor, but is still being used. The new administration building is in the background with the green-roofed towers.
It was a market day in the town center, so we walked through the stalls. The church in the center of the town is now shared by Protestants and Catholics.
We visited a nice chocolate shop, then we had lunch at a pub/Biergarten in town.
Schützenfest, a week-long carnival and music bands festival, was going to start in a few days, and the special Schützenfest beer from the local brewery (Berg) had just become available.
Then we visited a conditerie to try their chocolate, and we bought some cake which we ate with iced coffee under a canopy in the back yard in the afternoon.
After all that eating, we drove a short distance to Stafflangen for a festival with a big tent, beer and food, and “Zwei Spitzenbands” (Two Top Bands). We stayed for the first band’s whole set. The band features a famous alp horn player, and consists of six brass players and one drummer. Here they are setting up the alp horn.
We had Wilde Kartoffeln (jo-jo fries again!) and pizza for a light dinner. And, of course, beer.
Then we returned to the Sigfried and Andrea’s house and walked down to the town center where there was a free symphony concert featuring composers from England.
