Eagle Creek Backpacking

We got up a little bit earlier than the day before and had another nice breakfast at the restaurant associated with the hotel. We got to the Eagle Creek trailhead a bit before nine and got on trail a few minutes after nine.
The Eagle Creek canyon is really scenic and the trail is not steep, although it is scary in places where it is carved into the cliff. We had hiked up to the second bridge over Eagle Creek in the fall as a day hike. The creeks all have more water in them and the falls are a bit more spectacular. We continued on beyond our day hike turn-around and saw even more amazing falls.
It rained lightly a few times but the clouds were moving quickly and occasionally we got a glimpse of sun. We stopped for lunch and managed to eat it just before a more serious rain. We waited out the worst of that little storm and then continued on.
Tunnel Falls at around six miles is really impressive, and is another place where the cable “hand rail” is much appreciated.
We began checking camp sites after that. We found a nice one a bit shy of eight miles in. It was still early so we continued up the trail to another camp site where we made hot cocoa and then cooked our dinner. The sun came out a few times while we cooked and ate which was nice since our shoes had gotten soaked crossing a tricky creek. But then the wind came up and we got chilled. We headed back down to the nice camp spot and set up camp.
A little over 10 miles and close to 2000 feet of elevation gain for the day.
June 10, 2026
We got up fairly early and had some hot beverages and oatmeal for breakfast. It had rained overnight so the tent was very wet but it only drizzled a little in the morning. Eventually it would clear after a few showers. We got on trail before nine. The first mile was somewhat unpleasant hiking because plants are over-growing the trail and they were all soaking wet.
We took a couple snack breaks and made it out to the car by about 1:00 so we could get back home for a meeting at 6:00.
