Iceland Day 10 - Around Reykjavík — Iceland Overseas Adventure Tour 2017

We started the day with a trip to the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa supplied by water used in the nearby Svartsengi geothermal power station. People in Reykjavík claim it, and various mud and other spa treatments offered there, can cure all kinds of maladies. The water was very nice.

Freya managed to squeeze a few extra minutes into our schedule so we could stop the bus at a hardware store in order for several of us to buy the special pans for Icelandic pancakes like the ones Margrét’s sister made for us.

We spent a couple hours at the National Museum of Iceland. The exhibits are well done and informative, but it’s far too much to try to take in in just one visit. We also ate lunch at the museum cafe.

We visited Hallgrímskirkja, the largest church in Iceland and one of the tallest structures in the country.

We stopped at a start-up incubator for fishing-related ventures on one of the wharves in Reykjavík and heard about some unusual products being made from fish parts.

There was a Farewell Dinner at the hotel, then the next day was time for the long flight home. We got a great view of glaciers calving from south-east Greenland from the airplane window.
