Aussie Chicken

Aussie the Australorp
Early March 2013 - September 19, 2016

Once past the chick stage, Aussie never enjoyed being picked up. She suffered from an impacted crop for the past couple weeks, and ran away and resisted my attempts to “doctor” her. Sadly, once I was easily able to catch her and she was unable to resist “treatment,” I knew I had failed. I decided she was too weak to recover, and I didn’t want her to suffer any more.

It’s a bit difficult to find nice things to say about Aussie: She bullied Bridgette, and was especially mean while Bridgette was sick, then she bullied our 2013 chicks as well. Nor was she was a prolific or regular egg-layer. Apparently these are not general traits of Australorps, so maybe we will try another one someday – they are pretty birds.
